THANKSGIVING DAY -- Many, many moons ago

Okay, let's set the stage: Back in the dark ages, sometime between 1975 and 1977, forget which year for sure, we lived in the old farmhouse in Johnsville. Jody has stories to tell about that! Anyway, it's Thanksgiving Day and Dad had to work 1st shift. So Mom plans the whole Thanksgiving dinner to be ready shortly after he gets home. Uncle Bill and Aunt Gail and my cousins Mike, Phil, Rhonda and Jeff were all there. So daddy gets off work at 3:30pm (we thought) and should be home around 4:00pm. So after all the work and the kitchen is hot, (because we still have a working cook stove in the kitchen) we are waiting on Dad to get home. And we wait, and wait, and wait some more. He doesn't show. Now (according to Mom) Dad said he might have to pull a double but he would call her and let her know. No phone call. (Yes, we did have phones way back then, but no cell phones--hadn't even heard of those things yet.) Anyway, we finally get tired of waiting and had Thanksgiving dinner without Dad before the meal was a total loss. Mom was so upset. When he did get home, at 11:30pm that night, he said, "I told you if I wasn't home on time that I would be pulling a double." Lack of communication? Now we just wish he were here to be late for Thanksgiving dinner. SO THIS THANKSGIVING, COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS, for you never know when they could be snatched away. Be thankful for all things, good, bad or indifferent. Life is about change.
And that's the hardest lesson to learn. HAVE A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING this year! Make it count. Who knows (except our Lord) what the coming year could bring?
