Today, God once again has shown his mercy and grace in my family. My beautiful, loving 8 year old grandson Cameran could have drowned or frozen to death. Only by the grace of God is he still with us and fine.
He and his little neighbor were outside playing. It is cold and there is snow, so he is dressed in his winter coat, snow pants, boots, gloves, and hat. Joey had just gone outside to check on them as he and Sheri do every 5 to 10 minutes when he is outside in the cold playing. They were doing fine and playing in the yard. Joey came inside, took his shoes off and is telling Sheri that the kids are fine. Not a minute later Sheri thought she heard the little girl yelling. At first, she thought they were just playing. Then she tells Joey, "it sounds like she is yelling "help"." Joey goes and opens the door and the little girl is yelling "HELP! he's in the water".
Joey is panic stricken. He runs out in the yard in a pair of Sherri's flip flops which he loses and continues running barefoot in the snow to reach his son, who has gotten out of the water and is laying on the bank. When Joey picked him up Cameran could barely talk, could not move his arms or legs. Cameran asked his dad if he was having a dream. They think he may have blacked out at this point.
Joey runs back to the house with Cameran and he and Sherri start getting Cameran's clothing off. They know that he is about to go into hypotherma from the way he is not reacting and know they must get him warmed up. His body temperature is down to 94 degrees. They put him in a warm bath and gave him a cup of hot chocolate to warm his insides. Soon he is fine and is talking about what happened and is once again playing.
THANK GOD children are so resilient and that Cameran is a sturdy, healthy young boy. What a frightening experience for child and parents to go through.
As this story was being told to me the tears were flowing. How on earth could we stand it if Cameran had not survived this ordeal? The thought alone of something happening to one of my children or grandchildren is more than I can deal with, let alone if something actually did happen.
When I spoke with him on the phone this morning, (Saturday) I told him he is to stay away from the creek. He promised that he would, that he was not going anywhere near it again. He is starting to get a cough and may need to be checked by a doctor. Pray that his accident will not cause him further problems.
I hope and pray that God will continue to watch over my grandchildren. Things can happen so quickly, in less than a heartbeat, in the "twinkling of an eye", and life can change.
Please Lord, watch over my babies. -- Debbie
